A Small Learning Community at Ballard High School

Ballard High School, 1418 NW 65th St., Seattle, WA 98117        (206) 252-1000

The goal of the BMA is to introduce students to the job opportunities available to them in the many different maritime related industries from marine biologist, fisherman, shipyards to boat designer, or maritime attorney or working on a Cruise Ship.

Ballard Maritime Academy students enroll in college-preparatory, interdisciplinary marine science, technical education and liberal arts courses at Ballard HS. Lecture, laboratory experiences, and field trips are incorporated into each course.

Takes a moment to load. But, worth the wait!

Each class completes an adventure trip every year, which could include sailing, kayaking, or a cruise aboard a charter vessel
.
A small group of students is chosen to go to Washington, D.C. each spring as a guest of NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, our main sponsor.

The students also have the opportunity to participate in an internship project between their Junior and Senior years. The internship allows the students to see firsthand what a career in their chosen field is really like.

Our teachers and the classes they teach are all centered around the Maritime industry. Check out the awards our faculty has won. See the Educators awards page.
